St. Louis College of Pharmacy seeks a seasoned financial strategist with proven success overseeing capital structure, economic strategy, and forecasting in a large complex organization. The successful candidate will possess qualifications and skills described below. This position reports directly to the President and will be responsible for all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, and the securing of new funding.
Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy is the third-oldest and 10th-largest college of pharmacy in America. The College primarily admits students directly from high school, and bachelors degrees and a unique curriculum that integrates the liberal arts and sciences with a professional program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. You’ll have the opportunity to:
Oversee capital structure (e.g., determining best mix of debt, equity, and internal funding)
Economic strategy and forecasting (e.g., identify and capitalize on efficiencies and opportunities, compensation program and benefits, etc.)
Assess College performance against annual budget of approximately $40 million
Develop tools and systems to provide critical human resources, financial, and operational information to the president and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations
Present financial metrics to the President
Prepare short- and long-range financial models and plans for the College based on strategic objectives and priorities
Participate in the development of the College’s plans and programs as a strategic partner
Oversee cash flow planning (including banking relationships) and financing strategies that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
Oversee cash, investment, and endowment management
Oversee the engagement of audit services and timely and accurate filing of tax returns
Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to improve the operation and effectiveness of the College (i.e., financial and accounting) in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws
Support activities of the College’s Investment Committee and Board of Trustees Finance Committee, in collaboration with the President.
Oversees the financial risk management, professional and general liability insurance for the College. Main contact with CURMA and CUTA. Assure that the college is properly insured or aware of potential exposure.
Qualifications and How to Apply
To succeed in this role you will need:
10+ years of progressive, directly related experience, preferably in higher education finance and business affairs
Bachelor's degree in finance/accounting with MBA or other advanced degree
Broad finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership
Direct experience with high level, multi-year financial modeling and analysis, supporting strategic plans with multiple interdependencies and competing priorities
Analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model
Broad portfolio of leadership accomplishments and team building/management in progressively more senior management roles
Demonstrated experience in forecasting, cost/benefit analysis, financial planning, budgeting and budget modeling, debt financing, gift and endowment management, tuition pricing, and human resources
Experience with tax exempt bond issues and related reporting requirements
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including active listening skills
Attention to detail
The ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of College administrators, faculty, staff and students is essential.
