The Director - Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Track: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is responsible for oversight of the MSN and PMC Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner tracks and for ensuring the quality and effectiveness of the interrelated academic and clinical portions of the educational program. The director will also provide leadership in curriculum development and redesign, address and manage student and faculty academic and clinical issues, provide mentoring and development for faculty, and participate as a role model in the academic and scholarly missions of the department and the SON. This position reports to the Chair for Advanced Practice Programs.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
The Director will:
1. Ensure quality of the academic and clinical dimensions of nursing education in the respective department.
Monitor courses for quality, consistency, appropriate content, pedagogy, and innovation, and address problems with a strategic development plan that is consistent with the SON teaching mission and vision.
Evaluate the quality of classroom, clinical, and online teaching and address emergent issues.
Monitor the quality of clinical placements and clinical instruction in collaboration with the respective clinical education faculty and directors in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator, and make adjustments as needed.
Provide leadership in curriculum evaluation and curriculum redesign to ensure conformance with CCNE, certification, specialty organization, and State Board of Nursing standards and regulations for Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Programs.
Participate in assignment of faculty to courses and other activities based on assessment of skills and expertise.
Respond to students' academic concerns.
2. Manage the education of students in the respective department.
Provide guidance to faculty in solving emergent problems.
Manage student issues and problems, including follow-up, student meetings, documentation, referrals, and appropriate disposition.
3. Assess the effectiveness of the educational experience in meeting program outcomes, university standards, and accreditation requirements.
Analyze student retention and course/teaching evaluation data and develop processes to address current and future concerns.
Utilize program outcome metrics including end of program assessments, standardized testing, licensure and certification results, exit, alumni, and employer feedback in refining and improving the curriculum in collaboration with the Chair of Advanced Practice Programs.
4. Support effective functioning of the department.
Identify and address problems that interfere with effective student service and share with the Assistant Dean for Student Services.
5. Contribute to the teaching mission of the full nursing department and the SON as a faculty role model for teaching effectiveness.
Teach courses as assigned.
6. Contribute to the scholarly mission of the full nursing department and the SON as a faculty role model in publication and presentation.
Conduct scholarship in the area of expertise.
7. Effectively communicate with colleagues, faculty and staff.
Communicate essential information to faculty and staff.
Develop and disseminate policies and processes.
Represent the department and the SON at events and professional conferences.
Role model highly professional behaviors, including effective written and oral communication.
Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
8. Use organizational skills to manage the department.
Conducts faculty and other meetings as appropriate.
Collaborates with other departments.
Address unexpected situations productively using problem solving and strategic management skills.
Masters of Science in Nursing
Expertise in Adult Acute Care Gerontological Nursing Valid/Unencumbered Pennsylvania Nursing License (candidates applying without a PA license, if hired, would need to secure a license prior to beginning teaching assignment)
Valid/Unencumbered CRNP license within the specialty
PhD or DNP in nursing
Preference will be given to the candidate with successful teaching experience at the university or college level - to include online instruction
