Duquesne University's soon to be announced Duquesne-China Health Institute is seeking qualified applicants for part-time instructors to teach Occupational Therapy Essentials and Occupational Therapy Essentials II to international masters-level students from China. Courses will be held at Duquesne University campus.
Occupational Therapy Essentials – This course emphasizes key knowledge and concepts relative to occupational therapy as a profession and practice. Content includes the history, philosophies, organizations, roles and functions, standards of practice, ethics and future directions. Professional information literacy and evidence based searching, retrieval and analysis skills will be developed. In addition, fundamental practice skills will be obtained in readiness for future fieldwork and experiential learning. Fundamentals of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology that enable students to interpret, evaluate and treat clients with neurological impairments are reviewed.
Occupational Therapy Essentials II – This course is has two main areas of focus. The first module focuses on the use of evidence-based approaches to design and test occupational therapy programs and practice. In this module students are expected to demonstrate their ability to propose an evidence based clinical intervention program for a clearly identified population that includes specific outcome measures that can demonstrate treatment effectiveness. The second module focuses on psychosocial practice in occupational therapy. Occupational performance challenges for people with psychiatric disabilities are presented with specific emphasis on assessment and evidence-based interventions. Individual and group interventions addressing roles functioning and recovery, goal setting, stress management and self-management are addressed.
Master's degree or OTD in Occupational Therapy.
