Primary Role: Provide medical assisting and office support to the Lafayette Street Family Health Clinic located in Fort Wayne, IN. This position focuses mostly on medical assisting, vital signs and patient education. There are limited duties in terms of processing insurance, posting CPT codes, resolving issues.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
50% Responsible for all patient management prior and subsequent to physical examination. Speak clearly and concisely to triage incoming messages. Complete intake information with patients, takes and records vital signs and completes CLIA waved laboratory procedures. Educates patient about health maintenance, STD/HIV prevention and contraception options. Also responsible to give injections as prescribed.
20% Greet Patients and Visitors to the office. Answers telephone and provides appropriate information/assistance or routes caller to appropriate staff member. Record accurate messages and deliver to appropriate individual. Serves as translator for patients who are Spanish Speaking
5% Obtains lab specimens and sends to the appropriate lab
10% Responsible for making and/or coordinating determinations on basic medical referrals for authorization of necessary medical services and communicating authorization/denial to providers, member, patients and staff as needed.
10% Complete all necessary paperwork or reports related to job functions; maintain permanent files, develop and update patient charts; retrieving necessary files or paperwork. Maintain current, accurate information on medical recorders and computer regarding patient, including insurance records. Manage appropriately with Medicaid and HMO practices and procedures. Assistant office manager with completing and forwarding insurance forms and responding to insurance questions
5% Responsible for activities involving opening and closing of office. Maintain neat and orderly work area and waiting room. Maintain a working knowledge of practice and practice policies and procedures.
Equipment utilized: Computers, fax, phone, medical supplies and equipment.
Level of Decision Making: Employee would determine what information is recorded into the patient permanent record in collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner.
Scope and Impact: During collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner inaccurate information could compromise patient care.
High school diploma or equivalent, Graduate from CMA program.
GYN office experience preferred.
Medical Assistant Certification completed within six months of hire date.
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Working Conditions / Demands
Lift and carry up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 20 lbs occasionally. Bending and lifting of supplies. Physically assisting patients during exams.
