Summary of Duties:

The Spokane Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Director manages the daily operations and strategic objectives of the Center's program, and is responsible for developing, managing, implementing, and assessing middle and high school programs in the Northeastern Washington area.

The focus for each program is the student, with the primary interest to provide mathematics, engineering, technology and science programs for African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander and female populations. The Center Director works closely with Eastern Washington University (EWU) MESA Co- Sponsors for the Spokane Center. The Center Director may collaborate with either the University Sponsor or the Statewide Director as the situation requires. The Director receives advice and counsel from the Washington MESA office, the local Spokane Advisory Board, and the other MESA Directors in Washington State.

In addition to classroom instruction, the MESA Program offers various events including MESA field trips, MESA Day regional competition , Summer Programming and MESA teacher professional development.

Essential Duties:

Leadership - 50%

Program Development and Management - 30%

Fiscal Management - 15%

Other - 5%

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in mathematics, engineering, science, social science, education or related field.
• Demonstrated familiarity with under-represented student outreach practices.
• Experience working effectively with middle and high school students, parents, community groups from diverse cultures.
• Demonstrated communication skills, high level of organization and detail oriented work style.
• Must have, or able to obtain, a valid unrestricted driver's license at the time of hire. Reliable transportation is required.
• Frequent travel during the day, some evening travel, and weekend work is necessary for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in mathematics, engineering, science, social science, or education.
• Experience engaging under-represented students, exposing students to programs and services regarding access to colleges/universities.
• Experience working with non-profit or community service organizations.
• Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers or serving on a volunteer board.
• Familiarity with the organization and operation of secondary school/district administration; university/community college systems, business and industry.
• Experience in grant development (public and/or private).

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
