The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications and nominations for Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases. The Division offers exceptional opportunities for clinical care, research and scholarly activity, education and training, community outreach, and outstanding faculty. Division faculty are involved in multidisciplinary collaborations, funded research, and close partnerships with community-based agencies. A strength of the Division is its active engagement with traditionally underserved populations designed to address diverse health disparities. Located near downtown Chicago, faculty have easy access to world-class cultural and scientific resources.

The Division is part of a vibrant and growing Department of Medicine and College of Medicine that prioritizes collegiality, diversity, integrity, compassion, and innovation. UIC has the 2nd largest medical school in the country and the largest number of students from underrepresented minority groups. One of eight health science colleges, the College of Medicine is located in the Illinois Medical District with the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics (UI Health), the clinical enterprise that includes a 445-bed tertiary hospital, 21 outpatient clinics, 11 federally qualified Mile Square Health Center locations, and a new Specialty Care Building.

The successful candidate will have a record of strong leadership skills, administrative experience, clinical expertise, scholarly productivity and extramural funding, education and training, and a desire to support and grow the division and advance its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Division Chief's responsibilities are as follows:

Administration/Leadership
Enhance and build Divisional programs and promote a vision for clinical and translational research, training, and community outreach.
Manage the Division's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and resource allocation for programs and initiatives.
Develop and execute strategic plans for the Division, aligning with the goals of the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine, and UIC.
Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Division and the broader medical community.

Clinical Activities
Serve as attending physician for resident- and fellow-supported inpatient and outpatient services.
Supervise advanced care practitioners, fellows, residents, and medical students.

Research Activities
Actively engage in and support investigator-led national, federally-funded cutting-edge clinical research to treat and prevent COVID-19, HIV, and other infectious diseases.
Publish and support publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.

Training/Education
Recruit, oversee and mentor a team of ID specialists with expertise in general ID, transplant ID, infection prevention, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, HIV, addiction medicine, telehealth, mobile health and global health.
Collaborate with the Program Director to nurture and grow a vibrant and engaged ID Fellowship Training Program.

Outreach/community engagement
Work with community members and stakeholders to strengthen Division impact.

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (DO)
• Unrestricted State of Illinois Physician/Surgeon License or eligible to obtain upon offer
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
• Board Certified in Infectious Diseases
• Regional or national recognition is expected
