Essential Job Functions:

1. Create a teaching-learning laboratory environment that enhances the students' ability to use critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills.
2. Utilize research and literature findings to integrate 'best practices' into lab instruction.
3. In coordination with the course faculty, prepare skills lab demonstrations and simulated learning activities to ensure a consistent correlation between didactic and lab content.
4. Work closely with faculty to plan teaching-learning strategies that will increase the students' ability to meet the clinical skill requirements of each respective course.
5. Orients students and faculty to the clinical (skills and simulation) lab environment.
6. In partnership with course faculty, instructs and supervises students in clinical skills practice, and provides demonstrations and remediation, when necessary.
7. Supports faculty by participating in pre-briefing, simulation exercises, and de-briefing.
8. In collaboration with faculty, develop and utilize formal skills assessment tools to evaluate students' ability to meet the course outcomes.
9. Serve as a lab resource mentor to be available during regular lab time and open lab time to assist students to remediate specific skills, particularly students identified by the faculty as having a high risk of failure to meet the course outcomes.
10. Assist in developing, implementing, evaluating, and refining scenarios utilized for simulation experiences to ensure a realistic learning environment.
11. Utilizing a team approach with the nursing faculty to develop skills and simulation schedules and supervise students in the labs.
12. Maintain records of student attendance and skills performance, and provide feedback to course faculty.
13. Ensures a safe learning environment, and the safe storage and disposal of all hazardous material.
14. If requested, will assist the technician with the ordering and stocking of equipment and supplies within the center.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

• Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution (required).
• Current unrestricted Illinois RN license (required).
• Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or equivalent (preferred).
• Doctoral degree (EdD, PhD, DNP) (preferred).

Experience:

• At least three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse (required).
• Previous teaching experience (required).
• Worked in a fast-paced teaching/learning lab and/or simulation environment (required).
• Previous simulation experience (preferred).
• Familiar with Elsevier and Moodle (preferred).

Skills:

• Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a team.
• Ability to work with faculty and students across the BSN and MENP programs to assist with learning activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling student files and personal student information.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work varying schedules and hours including evenings and weekends if necessary to accommodate open lab hours.
• Ability to correctly lift and carry manikins, equipment, and supplies.
• Will take initiative, prioritize, and adapt to a shifting variety of duties.
• Proficient in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet.
