The Lilly Library is one of the most prominent special collections libraries in North America, with vast eclectic holdings ranging from medieval manuscripts to modern comic books. Our talented staff work hard to connect researchers with the rare books and manuscripts that enable their work, to curate exhibitions that spark interest and delight, and to provide students with high-impact learning experiences.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Manages, coordinates, and directs the daily digital imaging and photography services, as well as assist the Digitization Manager with in-house production digitization activities of the Lilly Library.
• Using Aeon software, maintain computerized and paper records related to reproduction orders, patron use, and image metadata.
• Interprets and enforces library policies governing what materials may be reproduced.
• Hires, trains, and supervises temporary employees, including workflow management and quality assurance of student work.
• Responds to unique or complicated requests personally.
• Works the library operations desk 2-4 hours per week and some Saturday shifts.

General Responsibilities

• Handles and monitors library materials, including reshelving, processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that all materials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition of library materials and may perform repair and preservation of library materials, as needed.
• Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering phones and handling library-related issues, escalating complex issues to supervisor.
• Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records, maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
• Assists with cataloging new items, performing audits of outstanding items, and/or interlibrary loan materials processing.
• Oversees library department desk and provide training and direction for students employees working the front desk.

EDUCATION

Required

• High school diploma or GED

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

• 1 year of office experience that includes previous production work in the operation and general maintenance of digital imaging equipment and software.
• 1 year of library experience including special collections library experience and supervisory experience preferred.

Preferred

• Knowledge of digital imaging standards and experience working with digital imaging equipment (digital cameras, scanners) and related software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom).
• Knowledge of standard office systems including email, internet applications, database searching, and working knowledge of computer and word processing/database/spreadsheet software.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact tactfully and courteously with faculty, staff, students, and other library users; and ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and peers.
• Demonstrates problem-solving abilities; strong organizational skills; and ability to effectively organize tasks and manage time.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position requires some physical activity moving objects up to 15 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
